Enchanted Garden Studios of Ridgefield (EG) and Camp Playland of Redding have teamed up to offer a two-week Summer Music Immersion (SMI) program for children, ages 9-12. SMI combines a morning of music ensembles, group instruction and master classes at Enchanted Garden Studios, with an afternoon of traditional camp activities at Camp Playland. The musicians will be bussed to Camp at lunchtime and back home at the end of the day.
SMI will be led by the EG’s accomplished music faculty members, including Bruce Sloat, conductor of the Fairfield Youth Symphony; Andrew Beals, renowned jazz performer and professor at Western Connecticut State University; Terry Reynolds, who has judged both regional and all-state music competitions; Chris Coogan, choir leader and winner of the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest; and composer, sound engineer Noah Manheimer, who runs the EG’s recording studio.
“We believe what transforms the aspiring musician’s relationship with music into a lifelong practice are inspiring teachers, playing and singing with other musicians, and performing. That’s what SMI is designed to deliver,” says Noah Manheimer.
Participants choose from among four ensembles (jazz band, concert band, string ensemble, chorus), group lessons, and master classes in music theory, composition, and recording technology. Each ensemble will have the opportunity to perform live, and to record in a professional studio.
Camp Playland’s Directors, Richard and Amanda Bloom, encourage children to F.I.N.D. themselves at camp by fostering Family, Independence, Nature, and Discovery. “Camp Playland’s experienced staff provides campers with a safe, instructional and most importantly, a FUN summer,” says Director Amanda Bloom.
Both Camp Playland and Enchanted Garden Studios are family-run institutions that have been operating for more than 20 years.
Two 2-week sessions are being offered July 25 – August 5, and August 8 – 19; 8:45 am — 4:00 pm.
